When planting anything it is always a good idea to start with a good growing medium. Plants and seeds are expensive and using a soil like our loam-compost mix will give some assurance that your hard work will succeed. This is a 50/50 mix of our fine, screened, Grade A loam and our organic compost. This mixture works great for raised beds and other gardens when you are replacing all of the soil. This loam-compost mix is also great for new lawns. The compost will add nutrients and moisture holding capacity. Because compost can hold four times its weight in water, you won’t have to water as much during dry spells. If you have a lawn with poor soil you can spread 2 – 4 inches of this mix right over it and plant a new lawn. The loam in this mix will allow for good, sturdy root growth. The compost is organic and teaming with beneficial micro organisms that allow the plant to access more of the natural fertility in the soil particles. This general purpose, high quality mix is screened to 3/8 inches and is very easy to work with. Our loam-compost mix is for both the professional grower and the novice gardener. Spread the mix out; plant it; step back and watch it grow.

The food stocks that are used in the recipe for Martin’s Farm compost come from sources near you: schools, restaurants, grocery stores, homes, businesses, and farms in Franklin County. We have very high standards for our compost, and this is a priority. We have purchased the very latest equipment and gone to great lengths training our staff to insure that all efforts are made to sort, separate, and remove all plastics from the mixture at all steps in the process, creating the most organic content and highest purity possible in our final compost products. Perfection is our goal, but the reality is that some small plastic particles will still escape through the process and end up in the final product, some of which are biodegradable plastics that take more time to dissolve than our process allows.
